About the Wander

Hi, I’m Ryan—an anthropologist in the making, writer, and lover of quiet adventures.

I created The Wandering Anthro as a place to share my slow, curious way of moving through the world. I don’t chase bucket lists or grand landmarks. I believe the soul of a place reveals itself when we slow down—when we linger, look closer, and let ourselves be surprised.

I’m a single mom to the most magical little human and currently earning my anthropology degree a bit later in life. These so-called limitations—parenting, school, a modest budget—have turned out to be gifts. They’ve taught me to find joy in what’s nearby, to savor the rhythm of slow travel, and to see that sometimes, the more we cram in, the more we miss.

As much as I love the academic world, it has a peculiar way of draining the joy from what once felt alive. I started The Wandering Anthro to bring that joy back. To reconnect with the wonder behind what I study. To apply what I learn in real time. To teach others, not through textbooks, but through lived experience. Academia teaches us to analyze the world. This project is about feeling it.

I also love seeking out fun, offbeat restaurants and cozy, curious places to stay—because where we eat and rest is part of the story, too. This project is part travel journal, part field notebook, part love letter to the beautiful in-between.

Thanks for wandering with me.
